County Commission Had a Busy Week

The Cass County Commission continues to make pro-active decisions in the final months of 2009. This week’s meeting was full of activity.

One of the first items on this week’s agenda was to address a bridge issue with 315th Street. Commissioner Bill Cook made a motion to approve and authorize Presiding Commissioner Mallory to sign construction engineering agreement with Cook, Flatt & Strobel for 315th street bridge project.

12 Miles of Road Improvements in Harrisonville

Twelve miles of street improvements are either underway, have been completed or are planned for 2009 through the combined efforts of the City of Harrisonville, MoDot and the federal government.

Sheriff Releases School Zone Enforcement Stats

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has released ticket-stats from their increased enforcement J Highway around the Ray-Pec School Zone to the Cass County Commission. In their two-week enforcement effort, the Sheriff issued 37 tickets and 15 warnings.

State of the County Address

Yesterday (9/18) the Cass County Commission gave a State of the County address during the Harrisonville Chamber of Commerce Luncheon at the Butcher Block Restaraunt.

The commission spoke of energy independence, grants it has received, the airport and ways to entice businesses to bring jobs to the area. “This is about making Cass County ready and attractive to businesses” said South Commissioner Bill Cook.

MoDOT projects in Cass County

Cold milling and one-inch asphalt overlay operations of 52 miles of state highways in rural Cass County will begin in late September. Here is the list of projects to be done by Lake Asphalt Paving and Construction, LLC, and their proposed schedule, barring any weather delays:

Route 2 Bridge Re-opens

The Route 2 Bridge over the Grand River east of Freeman in Cass County re-opened today. The bridge is the fourth this year to be completed in Cass County.

Traffic Switch for Route 71

modotTraffic will switch from northbound Route 71 to two-way, head-to-head traffic on the southbound lanes beginning 6 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8. Route 71 traffic will encounter various lane closures in each direction on Saturday as crews prepare for the traffic switch.

MoDOT to close bridge over Grand River

Tomorrow (July 21) MoDOT will close the Route 2 bridge one mile east of Freeman for repairs. The bridge should reopen by late August.

Concept report for proposed interchange

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has provided Harrisonville with a conceptual report for a new interchange at Hwy 71 and Rockhaven Road. The project could cost anywhere from $7 - 12 million dollars.

The new medical center and a presumed increase in local population appear to be the motivating factors for this proposal, which would provide additional access to Route 71 for the communities of Harrisonville and Peculiar.
