The body of an 18-year-old woman from Overland Park, KS was discovered recently in a field near E. 235th St. and State Route K near East Lynne.

Rinehart Trial Date Set

Danial “Danny” Rinehart is scheduled for trial April 19, 2010 in Cass County.

Rinehart, arrested in January, has been implicated in the death of a child he fathered with his teenage daughter. Prosecutors believe the man impregnated his daughter four times and had been having sex with her since she was 13.

45 Missourians Charged with Unemployment Fraud

An ongoing investigation by the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has resulted in guilty pleas from 45 individuals for fraudulent receipt of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits from the state. The individuals were charged with stealing by deceit and have been ordered to pay over $207,000 in restitution.

Two people from Jackson County and one from Cass County are among the 45 entering guilty pleas.

Sheriff to conduct “Operation Clean Slate”

From the sheriff’s office: Cass County Missouri Sheriff Dwight Diehl in cooperation with Cass County Associate Circuit Court Judge William Collins and Cass County Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Hensley, in an attempt to reduce the number of outstanding criminal arrest warrants currently being held by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, will conduct “Operation Clean Slate.”

This multi-agency coordination will be held between June 7 and June 13, 2009 and will allow any individual presently being sought on a misdemeanor warrant through Cass County Missouri, to turn themselves into the Sheriff’s Office. Subjects will be given a court date to dispose of their case and be released on their own recognizance without posting a bond.

Koster cracks down on fraudulent charities

May 20 - MO Attorney General Chris Koster (former Cass County prosecutor) went to Washington, D.C. to declare “Operation Broken Charity” in Missouri, meaning he will join the nationwide “sweep” to go after fraudulent fundraisers claiming to help police, firefighters and veterans.

Harrisonville man shot in standoff

Yesterday a 50-year old man was shot by a Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy after they responded to a call of domestic disturbance with shots fired at a house in the 30000 block of South Lone Tree around 11:30am.
