A Kansas City woman was driving in rural Cass County last week when she was struck by a bullet, probably fired from at least a mile away by a .30-caliber rifle.

County Approves Ordinance Addressing Dangerous Buildings

County Hires New Road & Bridge Superintendent

The Cass County Commission has hired a new Road & Bridge Superintendent to fill the role of the current superintendent, Robert Leper, who will retire at the beginning of 2010.

County Commission Had a Busy Week

The Cass County Commission continues to make pro-active decisions in the final months of 2009. This week’s meeting was full of activity.

One of the first items on this week’s agenda was to address a bridge issue with 315th Street. Commissioner Bill Cook made a motion to approve and authorize Presiding Commissioner Mallory to sign construction engineering agreement with Cook, Flatt & Strobel for 315th street bridge project.

County Makes Major Shift in Economic Development Efforts

The results have brought forth changes in the Cass County Corporation of Economic Development, a new policy stance on Economic Development, and a more unified effort among various municipalities and government entities.

The body of an 18-year-old woman from Overland Park, KS was discovered recently in a field near E. 235th St. and State Route K near East Lynne.

Citizens Benefit from NACo Membership

The Cass County Commission received new data from NACo (National Association of Counties) that citizens are benefiting from the NACo Prescription Discount Drug Card program.

Cass County Citizens using the NACO Prescription Discount Drug Card have saved $102,863 since November 2008. Associate Commissioner Brian Baker is pleased with the stats.

Sheriff Releases School Zone Enforcement Stats

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office has released ticket-stats from their increased enforcement J Highway around the Ray-Pec School Zone to the Cass County Commission. In their two-week enforcement effort, the Sheriff issued 37 tickets and 15 warnings.
