Last week the Pleasant Hill Council passed Bill no. 09-13, supporting an Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) and establishing the Board for northeastern Cass County.
EEZs provide tax credits to help develop new and expanding businesses. Tax credits may be provided each year for up to ten years if the business creates a certain number of jobs and spends enough money on “new investment”.

The Pleasant Hill City Council last week awarded a $197,395 contract for the city’s 2009 street overlay program.
Hanrahan Asphalt, Inc., of Grandview was the successful bidder. Six Kansas City-area companies bid on the Pleasant Hill street work.

Pleasant Hill firefighters cool down an electrical fire (above) that broke out aboard a westbound Amtrak passenger train shortly before 1 p.m. last Monday. The Amtrak crew detected an electrical problem on the train and discovered smoke and flames pouring from underneath the rear passenger car.

The Pleasant Hill City Council last week amended its ordinances and removed limits on the number of outlets for the sale of fireworks over the Fourth of July holiday.
In recent years, the city has limited permits for fireworks sales in town to just four outlets.

Work has begun on the Rock Island Trail – Katy Connector, which will link the KC area to the nationally acclaimed Katy Trail State Park. Governor Nixon made the announcement last month from what will be the future trailhead in Pleasant Hill, next to the Cass County Fair Grounds. “With work beginning on the Rock Island Trail – Katy Connector, we are one stop closer to providing Missourians with an opportunity to experience the beauty of our state from one side to the other through an unbroken trail system,” Gov. Nixon said.
