Molendorp accuses Nixon aide of trying to buy vote

J.T. | May 7, 2009

State Rep. Chris Molendorp (R- Belton) says Nixon’s deputy chief of staff Dustin Allison offered to assist in a “future career change” if he would vote for the Budget Bill that would fund health care expansion on Wednesday.

Molendorp and Anne Zerr (R - St. Charles) claim they were contacted by Allison an hour and 15 minutes before the vote, saying Gov. Nixon (D) would look “favorably” on them if they “shared his vision” on this Bill.

The House Transportation Committee unanimously passed Senate Bill 58, which will most likely expand the use of Red-light cameras in Missouri.

The Bill is known as the Missouri Universal Red Light Enforcement Act (MURLE) and would regulate how the cameras are to be used, in addition to sending some money to the state, via the “Red Light Enforcement Fund”. There will be a $500 fee for each camera installed and the “money in the fund shall be used to conduct audits to ensure agency compliance with the provisions of sections 304.271 to 304.281, including, but not limited to, ensuring that the agency is distributing the fines collected as required under section 304.288.”

More drama over the MIAC report

J.T. | April 24, 2009

This article from STL Today says that “Missouri House Speaker Ron Richard has agreed to appoint a special committee to investigate the political profiling done by the state’s “fusion center” known as MIAC.”

For those who don’t remember, the MIAC report was a state-sanctioned report that tried to link 3rd party voters with domestic terrorists, otherwise known as militias. Even though the Federal and state constitutions each mention militias in a positive manner, apparently today the term militia is supposed to conjure up images of machine-gun wielding psychopaths whose sole purpose in life is the destruction of the U.S. government.

Expanding Health Care Coverage Responsibly

As the costs of health care coverage have spiraled out of control, not surprisingly the number of uninsured Missourians has risen sharply. Some estimates indicate that as many as one-third of Missouri’s citizens do not have health insurance, with a high percentage of the uninsured being working families. This is simply unacceptable. We must take measures to get hard-working Missourians affordable health care. However, the measures we take must be fiscally responsible and honor our commitment to spend taxpayer dollars wisely.
