All tax statements will be mailed November 1, 2009. If you do not receive your statement by November 10, 2009, please call the Collector’s Office at 816-380-8377. “Our office is working very hard to be prepared to help citizens. If they have a concern or need assistance we encourage them to call us,” commented Shipley.
Shipley also wants citizens to avoid any penalties created by state law. In order to avoid penalties, taxes must be paid by December 31, 2009. Failure to receive a statement does not relieve the obligation to pay taxes and applicable late charges. If you choose to mail your taxes, they MUST be post marked by the United States Postal Service no later than December 31, 2009. “We would remind citizens that we are bound by state law regarding the December 31 deadline and we want to help citizens avoid penalty fees by making sure they are aware of the deadline,” stated Shipley.
The Collector’s office also wants voters to know how to correct a statement if citizens believe there is an error on their tax bill. Upon receipt of your tax statement, if you note an error such as an incorrect vehicle, name, address change or a question regarding your assessed valuation, please contact the Assessor’s Office at 816-380-8400.
The Collector’s office is located at 201 W. Wall Street in Harrisonville, MO. The office hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. A drop box is located on the front of the building for your convenience. No drop box payments will be accepted after midnight on December 31, 2009. The office will be closed November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving and December 25 for Christmas.
When paying taxes in person, the following methods of payment are acceptable: Cash, check, money order, and approved debit or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express). When paying taxes by mail, the office will accept check, money order or an approved debit or credit card. The Collector’s Office also offers on-line tax payment via the internet at www.casscounty.com . Payment options on line are e-check ($2.75 convenience fee will be added), and credit or debit card. The same payment options are available by calling 1-800-2PAY-TAX (1-888-272-9829), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The jurisdiction code for Cass County is 3519. When paying on line or by phone, your receipt will be issued in 3-5 business days.
Anytime your taxes are paid using an approved debit or credit card, a 2.75% convenience fee of the total tax amount will be added to the credit or debit card. This fee is not retained by the Collector or Cass County.
Your tax statement will provide detailed information about the office and also provides a credit card coupon for your use. Also, the statement contains information describing how your taxes are calculated. A listing is shown indicating how your taxes are apportioned to the different taxing entities according to the district in which you live. The tax statement provides you with the tax rate for each entity in your district.
After payment of taxes, you will receive a full page receipt. Please remove the bottom portion of your receipt to utilize when going to a license fee office for vehicle transactions.
