Chris Cotten, Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Director, has announced that the Ian Tilmann Foundation of Safety Harbor, Florida will provide free helmets to skaters who need them in order to enjoy the new skateboard facilities at City Park.
A properly fitting and well-constructed helmet is crucial to the safety of all skaters and cyclists. The Harrisonville Parks and Recreation Department considers them so important that it has made the use of helmets, pads and other safety gear one of the top rules in the new park.
The Ian Tilmann Foundation was founded in 2005 in memory of Ian Tilmann who died of brain injuries suffered from a skateboard accident. Their core mission is to prevent similar tragedies by distributing safety helmets and promoting their use among youngsters and adults engaged in any skating or cycling sport.
To order a helmet, skaters can access the registration form at http://www.theiantilmannfoundation.org/ Skaters may choose a helmet manufactured by either S-One Helmet Company or Bern Unlimited. They can also specify the color of choice and whether they prefer a helmet that is Consumer Product Safety Commission certified or non-certified. A $7 shipping and handling charge will apply for each helmet requested.
