12 Miles of Road Improvements in Harrisonville

Twelve miles of street improvements are either underway, have been completed or are planned for 2009 through the combined efforts of the City of Harrisonville, MoDot and the federal government.
Harrisonville officials have released a map showing those streets within the city that will be improved this year. “We are very excited to be able to provide this benefit to the residents of Harrisonville,” Mayor Kevin Wood said. “Citizens tell us that good roads and streets are one of their top priorities, and the city is responding by combining available resources to push forward with needed improvements in both commercial areas and residential neighborhoods. Good roadways are not a luxury; they are one of the building blocks of a strong community.”
City Administrator Keith Moody stressed the funds have been spent on city streets. “The federal and state grant dollars we received are benefiting the residents, business owners, and visitors of Harrisonville. Harrisonville used its annual overlay budget as the city’s match to these grant dollars, resulting in 3 times the amount of overlay work we are able to complete.”
So far in 2009, MoDot has provided 2.2 miles of overlay on Highway 2, federal and state grant funds have paid for an additional 1.6 miles of overlay, and the city has picked up the cost of another 2.2 miles of overlay. Furthermore, the chipseal maintenance program, now underway, will re-surface 6 miles of city roadway.
