Fire at Harrisonville High School
Posted By J.T. on September 19, 2009
A fire in a janitor’s closet ended school early for Harrisonville High School students on Friday (9/18).
Around 8:45 a.m. the fire alarms went off and local emergency personnel promptly responded. The fire was contained to the closet, but 8 rooms suffered smoke damage.
Students and staff were safely evacuated and met up at the United Methodist Church on Mechanic St., where parents were allowed to come pick up their children.
School officials are still assessing damage and are unsure when classes will resume.
“Our hope is to get the kids back in school as soon as possible. We’re a school. That’s what we do. So hopefully Monday but we’ll have to see,” said Communications director Jill Filer. She will be updating the school’s website, www.harrisonvilleschools.org to keep students and parents abreast of any new information.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
