Update to Raymore Cat Shooting
Posted By J.T. on September 13, 2009
The officers involved in the shooting of 19-year-old feline Tobey will not be punished, said acting Raymore Police Chief Roger Mayberry on Friday afternoon. He added that an investigation is ongoing, and his officers have received training this past week on the proper procedures for dealing with animal control issues.
The Humane Society of Missouri, based in St. Louis, is looking into the incident and investigator Brian Williams said it will take several days to interview everyone involved.
The city of Raymore is searching for ways to avoid similar situations in the future, such as requiring an Animal Control officer to always be on call or ensuring stray animals are taken to shelters.
Animal Control does not currently have anyone available on evenings, weekends or holidays. They are the ones who normally handle issues like the Labor Day incident, and having someone on call would most likely prevent a repeat of last weekend’s episode.
There is no reason to shoot the contained cat in the head twice and dump it in the trash, especially if the cops believed it had rabies because it needs to be ruled out. If shooting a cat isn’t considered animal cruelty, all I can say is that I’m glad I don’t live in your hick town full of idiots and numb nuts. Did you cops get your oohhs and ahhhs shooting a helpless 6 pound deaf feeble cat? Did you all feel like REAL MEN slaughting a helpless animal? SICK!!!. If it were my cat I guarantee I would have already called up my lawyers and filed a law suit against each and every person involved including the city. Ohh my God would I be major pissed. Does this imply that cops can shoot any animal they see fit? Even homeless animals? Like in target practice? My God you all are sick!!!

Just some advice - If you want people to feel the same way you do on a particular subject, it is generally not a good idea to insult the town and the people residing in that town.
Also, the actions of a few police officers in no way make the inhabitants of Raymore “sick”.
Shooting an old cat is sick. And a town that is not even raising an eyebrow about it is even sicker. I never heard of your hick town until now and I’m glad I’m far far away from you all.
One word of advice-this kind of news has reached across the nation, and it makes your town look very very bad. I doubt business people would want to build on such a hick town. But stay far away as possible. I know if I had to move to MO, I would stay far far away from your town.
Yes, I do insult your town because what these cops have done to that cat is pure SICK and even sicker that you all tolerate this.
