Confirmed Case of H1N1

Posted By J.T. on September 9, 2009

swine-fluAs of Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, the Raymore-Peculiar School District learned that a staff member at Shull Elementary School had a medically confirmed case of H1N1, otherwise known as the Swine Flu.

The H1N1 virus is a form of the flu.  Persons experiencing flu-like symptoms may have a suspected case of H1N1, a probable case of H1N1 or a medical confirmed case of H1N1.  The school district follows the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Cass County Health Department definitions for suspected, probable and confirmed cases.  The school’s response is the same for all three definitions.  The school district asks staff and students with flu-like symptoms to stay home and not return to school until at least 24 hours after they are symptom free with no medication.swine-flu-sci-2003

Please notify the school nurse if your child has been diagnosed with the flu or other contagious disease.  The school district communications on the flu, as recommended by public health officials, will focus primarily on good hygiene and other preventive measures.
