Harrisonville, MO. After a special meeting last week, the Harrisonville Area Chamber of Commerce has decided to look for a new Executive Director. A shocked Ann Britt was informed of her termination after the meeting took place.
“I am very proud of the work that has been accomplished with the chamber under my involvement in the past 14 years with the organization,” Britt said. “There were many accomplishments during my tenure and new endeavors that we were pursuing. The news of my dismissal came as a total surprise to me.”
Board of Directors President-Elect Chris Benjamin said the meeting was held to discuss the new direction the board should take. “The best way I think we can grow as a chamber, to better serve our community, especially in these economically depressed times, we need to have new management,” Benjamin said. “For that reason, we feel we need a new executive director.”
From the Cass County Democrat-Missourian:
Current Chamber President Dan Powell recognized Britt’s years of service. “I do want to thank her for all she has done with the chamber,” Powell said. “We wish the very best for her in her future endeavors.” A search committee has been established within the board of directors. “That committee will be responsible for evaluating the current programs and the staff structure,” Powell said. “They will be responsible to perform the search for executive director.”
The executive director is responsible for all of the daily management activities of the chamber, public relations with the community, organizing chamber events and outreach to businesses in the community as well as those that operate in the community but are not located in Harrisonville. Powell said the board wants to have the transition in place before the new year when the new officers will be installed. “It is truly my hope, as president, that we will be able to have someone in place as early as Nov. 1 and no later than Dec. 1,” he said.
While the search committee looks to fill the vacancy, the director’s duties will fall on Program Manager Judy McKim and Secretary/Bookkeeper Sara Craig. Board members will also be volunteering to help. “The chamber will still be operating efficiently and be open daily,” Powell said. “We want to make this a positive change for the community.”
