Peculiar Sets Levy, Tax Increases to be on Ballot

The Peculiar Board of Alderman voted last week to adopt a tax levy of $.6231 for every $100 assessed property value. This means that a home valued at $100,000 will require $623.10 in property taxes. This will go into effect October 1.
The board also decided to place 2 tax increases on the November ballot. There was a unanimous decision to put a $.20 tax levy raise on the ballot for maintenance and construction of the sewer system. This requires a simple majority to pass.
This November Peculiar residents will also be asked to vote on a $.01 fuel tax (per gallon) for taking care of city streets. This issue requires a two-thirds majority vote in order to pass. The Board voted 5-1, with Ward 3 Alderman Jim Antonides voting no.
