Skelton: District Benefits from Recovery Funding

Posted By J.T. on August 17, 2009

skelton-2Congressman Ike Skelton says Missouri’s 4th district is benefitting from the Recovery Bill.

From Skelton’s weekly column:

In just over six months, the Recovery Act, along with our other economic initiatives, has worked to stabilize economic conditions and help those harmed by the economic crisis.  According to recent testimony delivered by the Federal Reserve Chairman, Benjamin Bernanke, the unemployment rate would likely be higher if the Recovery Act had not been enacted.  By June, the economy was losing one-third fewer jobs than it was at the start of the 2009.  And, much of the financial strain facing states and local governments has been cushioned by Recovery Act money, which has allowed local leaders to avoid laying off teachers, prison guards, police officers, and firefighters.

He goes on to mention that “in the six months since the bill was signed into law, the Fourth District has secured over $213 million in Recovery Act funding.”  You can view the list of recovery projects secured for the 4th district HERE.

Cass County has received $504,708 for the Route 2 construction project.

  1. I Voted says:

Like it or not this is just an example of the pork that the congress voted and passed. And good old Ike will take credit for every dollar knowing its just pure pork in trade for what he hopes are votes.

And we voters need to wake up and realize that that is our tax money that had they let us keep it, we could use it o our benefit and our communities benefit.
