Work Begun on St. Jude Dream Home

Ground was broken last week in conjunction with the building of the newest St. Jude Dream home in Raymore.

The four bedroom, 3000-square-foot home will be given to the winner of a raffle on April 17, 2010. The $100 tickets will be available to area residents beginning January 7 of next year and all proceeds will go to St. Jude.

Funding for Landowners to Improve Quail Habitat

The Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI) will provide funding to landowners in Cass and 6 other Missouri counties to help them protect water quality and improve habitat that benefits bobwhite quail.

CCPI is a voluntary conservation initiative that enables the use of certain conservation programs with resources of eligible partners to provide financial and technical assistance to owners and operators of agricultural and nonindustrial private forest lands.

Belton Woman Shot to Death

Michael S. Adams, Jr. has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of his longtime girlfriend Amber Hartwig.

MoDOT to close bridge over Grand River

Tomorrow (July 21) MoDOT will close the Route 2 bridge one mile east of Freeman for repairs. The bridge should reopen by late August.

Fire Truck Totaled While Responding to Crash

The West Peculiar Fire Department was responding to an overturned vehicle Wednesday evening, when a semi-trailer ran into a fire truck at full speed.

No sales tax!

If you’re needing buy school supplies for your children, there will be no sales tax on select items the weekend of August 7. Apparently this is the state’s way of saying “we’re sorry for taking all your tax dollars the rest of the year”. The state sales tax, county sales tax and city sales tax will not be in effect during these dates for most of Cass County

Concept report for proposed interchange

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has provided Harrisonville with a conceptual report for a new interchange at Hwy 71 and Rockhaven Road. The project could cost anywhere from $7 - 12 million dollars.

The new medical center and a presumed increase in local population appear to be the motivating factors for this proposal, which would provide additional access to Route 71 for the communities of Harrisonville and Peculiar.

Dish Network case settled

3 teens hurt in car wreck

Three teenagers were injured in a Cass County accident about 10:45 p.m Saturday.

According to a Missouri Highway Patrol report, a 15-year-old boy from East Lynn, Mo., was driving with two 16-year-old girls from Harrisonville when the accident occurred.

Apple Valley flood project takes first step
