Koster Applauds Decision on Pledge of Allegiance

Farmington, MO - Former Cass County Prosecuting Attorney and current Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster says the decision protects citizens’ rights to express patriotism.
Last week, Judge Bernhardt Drumm, Jr. dismissed a lawsuit from Robert Stamm Sr. and Robert Stamm Jr. in which the men claimed Judge Kenneth Pratt violated their First Amendment rights by “coercing” them into reciting the Pledge. Upon entering the courtroom, it was typical of Judge Pratt to invite those present to remain standing for the Pledge of Allegiance.
From the Attorney General’s website:
“The court’s decision to dismiss this case protects the rights of our judiciary and our citizens to express their patriotism to our country,” Koster said. “The decision also leaves open the opportunity for everyone in the courtroom to be reminded of the right to ‘liberty and justice for all.’”
