Funding for Landowners to Improve Quail Habitat

Posted By J.T. on July 22, 2009

bobwhite-quailThe Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI) will provide a total of $280,120 to landowners in Cass and 6 other Missouri counties to help them protect water quality and improve habitat that benefits bobwhite quail.

CCPI is a voluntary conservation initiative that enables the use of certain conservation programs with resources of eligible partners to provide financial and technical assistance to owners and operators of agricultural and nonindustrial private forest lands.

The project will offer incentives to landowners in Cass County related to management practices including: woody cover control; edge feathering; and inclusion of warm-season grasses, legumes and forbs to improve quail habitat.  The Missouri Department of Conservation expects to assist 200 producers during the four-year project.

$75,000 will come from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and $25,000 will come from Quail Unlimited.

On a side note: Quail season is set to begin November 1.
