Concept report for proposed interchange
Posted By J.T. on July 17, 2009
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has provided Harrisonville with a conceptual report for a new interchange at Hwy 71 and Rockhaven Road. The project could cost anywhere from $7 - 12 million dollars.
The new Medical Center and a presumed increase in local population appear to be the motivating factors for this proposal, which would provide additional access to Route 71 for the communities of Harrisonville and Peculiar.
From the report:
A new interchange at Rockhaven Road would do the following:
- Provide alternate point of access between Harrisonville and Peculiar and future traffic in the region, thereby reducing delays and traffic congestion at existing locations, improving air quality and access for ingress and egress to regional development.
- Improve safety by reducing emergency vehicle response times to the new Medical Center, especially from areas north and west of the Center.
- Improve local economic development opportunities by removing transportation-related impediments related to direct access to Route 71 and the movement of people and goods.
- Relieve current and future traffic congestion at the Route 291 at Route 71 interchange and at the Route J and Route 71 interchange.

NOTE: it is an extremely large file and will probably take awhile to download.

Question: shouldn’t the second exit of 71 going thru’ H’ville be renamed the Mechanic St exit? It used to go up Wall St but now it has been rerouted to go up Mechanic St.
