Cass County under heat advisory
Posted By J.T. on June 23, 2009
For the first time this season Cass County is under a heat advisory. With heat indices being between 105 - 110 degrees the Cass County Health Department would like to remind everyone that anyone can suffer heat illness or death, but there are some members of our community at higher risk. Those with chronic medical conditions or who are disabled, the elderly, the economically disadvantaged, people taking certain medications (including narcotics, sedatives, and diuretics), toddlers left in cars and infants less than 1 year old, athletes who are not accustomed to working out in warm environments, and people who work outside are at highest risk for heat-related illness or death. The Cass County Health Department recommends checking on relatives, friends, and neighbors during high temperatures. For general information on heat signs and symptoms, call the health department at (816) 380-8441 or go to www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/heat_guide.asp. For heat information and community resources, call Cass County Health Department’s community partner United Way 211 line, at 2-1-1 or (816) 474-5112.
