Harrisonville — City Administrator Keith Moody Wednesday received word that the City has been awarded a $3,000,000 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant to fund improvements to its waste water treatment plant and another $4,300,000 in low interest loans to complete the project.

“This is fantastic news,” Moody said in announcing the award to the board of aldermen and city staff. “This should enable our users to enjoy more affordable sewer rates in the future. With that in mind this not only enables Harrisonville a great sewer system but helps every family in town have a better quality of life.”

“We are so grateful to Representative Luke Scavuzzo and Sen. David Pearce who helped make this happen by getting our project the attention it deserved.”

In April, Harrisonville voters approved issuing $7 million in revenue bonds for the project. The community’s overwhelming support of the ballot initiative helped influence the decision. Today’s announcement means the city will only have to offer roughly 60% of the bonds, which will result in lower sewer rates to customers.

The City expects to close on the loan in October, the same month construction is expected to begin.

  1. I Voted says:

“Fantastic News” would be if we had leadership that would say no to this. I have no doubt we need the project. But its so terribly sad we accept federal money and never consider that it is all debt and all part of an ill conceived and pork filled political game.

I cant wait to see the new sidewalk in Cleveland.
