State Capitol roof in need of repair

Jeff Schaeperkoetter , who oversees repairs of state buildings, says parts of the roof have been held down with ballast (”concrete blocks”) since at least last year.
“The entire Capitol building is showing its age,” he said. In the past, legislators have had to dodge drip water in the now 91-year-old building.
The project is to begin June 11 and take about five months. The cost to the state is about $2.1 million, roughly $1 million less than expected. Cannon Construction Company of Troy, MO won the contract to do the roof work and crews will also brace a concrete wall around the roof to withstand earthquakes.
Motorists should be prepared for parking limitations on the north side of the building for the duration of the reconstruction project.
