Tennis Across America to be held Saturday, May 9

The Harrisonville Parks & Recreation Department is offering residents a chance to take part in one of the nation’s largest tennis events on Saturday, May 9 during the Tennis Across America fun day, starting at 10 a.m. at the tennis courts in City Park.

This year marks the 20th annual celebration of Tennis Across America, the original, free, grassroots, instructional tennis program. Its goal is to introduce the game to children and adults who have never experienced it. “Millions of Americans have already discovered that tennis is an enjoyable way of keeping fit,” said Tim Heckler, CEO of United States Professional Tennis Association, the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization of tennis-teaching professionals. “Through this event, we hope to show millions more that it can be fun for them, too, and that tennis is a sport for life.”

Tennis Across America is open to children, adults, and families. There will be demonstrations, games, contests, and prizes. Tennis rackets will be available for those who need them, and lunch will be provided.

Tennis Across America is a free event, but participants must register by calling the Harrisonville Community Center, 380-8980.
